A journey in the refrigerator!

All foods deteriorate or lose their freshness over time. But we can delay or minimise this decay: for example with the help of the refrigerator, our first ally in domestic food preservation.

Let’s go into our refrigerator to better understand how it works …

We should find the most recently purchased  foods at the back and in front of these products we will see the older ones, so we will consume them first.

Inside, the different shelves offer different temperatures.

Usually, in the lower area, above vegetable’s drawer, the temperature is lower. It is the right place where to store the most delicate foods like meat or fish.

The top shelf is perfect for dairy products, eggs and cured meat.

To preserve certain food for longer, you can try the vacuum technique. Raw ham cut into slices, for example, could get darker after some time. But if it is vacuumed, a machine that eliminates the air from the package in which it is stored its natural colour remains. In fact the darker shade is caused by oxygen: the process is called oxidation.

In the highest and central areas of the fridge, we find the temperature control center, which we can control!

Due to the fact that it stays on day and night, the refrigerator consumes a lot of energy, so it is better to have an energy class A +++ one, so that it consumes less and is more sustainable!
